Funding Cancer Information Units – prevention is better than cure
Emeralds & Ivy celebrates the partnership between Cancer Research UK and the Marie Keating Foundation. Since 2006 this event has raised an incredible £2.9 million to fund two mobile Cancer Information Units, staffed by specialist nurses and health advisors.
These Units play a vital role in helping to prevent cancer through earlier detection and diagnosis. They deliver vital messaging to the public about lifestyle changes they can make to prevent cancer, and the early signs and symptoms of which to be aware. It is thought that 50% of cancers could be prevented by changes to lifestyle, so the more people that we can bring this information to, the more lives we can save. In 2011 we will celebrate the 200,000th person to step onboard one of these Units. This wouldn’t be possible without the money raised at Emeralds & Ivy. With your support this year we will continue to make a real difference.
